Hans' Review

They kicked of at 8.15 with Seven Bridges Road, and they followed the Manchester setlist. But they played between Walk Away and Tequila Sunrise a small peace of Glenn's Strange Weather album: Silent Spring (am i the only one who noticed that?? or is it the first time they are doing that??). So we all thought: Long hot Summer, but no!

The sound was very good from the beginning, the second set a bit loud. The show was very effective and did not distract from the music, but they don't need that anyway. Between songs they needed some time to change the instruments with almost no lights and no talking to us. This is a pity, because you lose a bit of contact with the audience.

Well, we can read everywhere that they are great and they are, especially the harmonies, wonderful bringing goosebumps from time to time. But the setlist could be better. Sometimes i thought i was watching the Don Henley Band or the Joe Walsh Band, nothing wrong with that (don't get me wrong), but it could be more balanced. The voice of Timothy is so damn wonderful, as is his hair (according to my wife); give him one more song. The same goes for Glenn Frey (Long Hot Summer!!). I am a bit critical, but at my age (40) and 250 concerts later, it is no wonder.

But, it is sure worth your money and when you have the opportunity, go see them, they do give you a magical evening. And don't forget all the people out there, who are putting the show together, night after night!!

Lex's Review

A few thoughts about the two concerts in Rotterdam Friday and Saturday, finally after being a fan since 1994 and missing them in 1996, I was able to see the band perform live. The Rotterdam Ahoy complex was packed with almost seventeen thousand fans who were already in a great mood before the concert started, (we all started doing a wave which lasted until show time). Everybody completely freaked out when they took the stage and performed Seven bridges road. The rest of the set list was the same as most other dates so I wont post it again. From the beginning on I was very interested to see how Steuert fitted in with the rest of the band, although Felder is better with the country part of the set he was simply amazing with most of the electric stuff. I thought it was a good thing that he did not exactly copied all the solo completely, the revised version of the Boys Of Summer solo was in my opinion just great! Glenn was in a great mood and cracked jokes for most of the evening, a few quotes;

“Damn it hot on stage, I am sweating like Eminem at a gay festival” or “I am sweating like a lawyer who is trying to tell the truth” or just before the intermission “Were gonna take a short break to slip into a dry Martini, sorry dry clothes I mean”.

Henley was smiling all evening and jumped around with Joe on Dirty Laundry, Joe off course was running and jumping all evening and performed every solo and song perfectly. The only thing I did miss was Glenn playing guitar on You Belong to the City. I really do not think that he should be behind the Fender Rhodes while they do this song. Everybody sang along the whole evening but especially during the three encores, with Hotel California getting a standing ovation while Glenn was in the spotlight during the intro. The boys seemed to enjoyed it a lot and left the stage smiling at about 23.15.

The next evening was even better, Glenn started by telling the crowed that The Netherlands was “a home away from home for the eagles” and that they always enjoyed coming here. The set list was exactly the same but the did extend some of the solos!! They really enjoyed themselves that night and it showed, there was a lot of talking between the songs from every member of the band. A few examples;

Joe to Tim after I cant tell you why; “Hey Tim, if I asked you, could you really not tell my why? Don’t worry, I cant either”. And Glenn; “I am sweating like a hooker in church”.

Joe went completely nuts during Life’s been good, he added completely new guitar riffs and just was running all over the place. The crowd enjoyed it enormously although I did not expect for so many people to know the word to the song, but almost everybody chanted along.

Henley was enjoying himself so much that he actually had to stop singing during Life in The Fast Lane because Joe was acting like, well….. Joe. Meanwhile Glenn was jumping up and down the guitar amplifiers as he later also did during Rocky Mountain Way. Before Desperado Don wanted a spot light and thanked the crowd not only for this evening but for the past thirty years. He later let us sing a few lines of the song and everybody joined in and it visibly made them feel good. He also said that the Eagles would be back to Holland many time in the not to distant future, and with that thought we left for home after two great night of music from the best live band in the world.

Sandra's Review

I don't have much to add to the review from Lex except for the fact that Don Henley thanked the Dutch audience friday night for the support over the last thirty years and he memorized the fact that The Eagles received their first award here, the Edison-award in 1973 for the Desperado album. He also mentioned that Holland was the first country outside the US where The Eagles were successfull. He said that they will always be grateful for that.

As for the shows, I was excited to see them play "Walk Away" and a very little bit disappointed that there were no songs from "Feed the fire" or "Inside job".

I don't know if I'm the only one but when they played "Wasted time" I had goose pimples , what was a bit weird if you know that temperatures were over 40 degrees Celsius! And am I the only one who noticed that Don Henley got a bit emotional when he sang "Desperado"?

Since I was lucky enough to be in the front row (both nights) of a boiling hot venue I was able to take a few pictures of the show. And yes, I did have eye-contact with both Glenn and Timothy!!!!

The Eagles in het kader van World Tour 2001 in Ahoy. Met Glenn Frey (zang, gitaar), Don Henley (zang, drums), Joe Walsh (gitaar, zang),Timothy B. Schmit (gitaar, zang) plus achtkoppige begeleidingsband.

Gezien: vrijdagavond. Herhaling: zaterdagavond.
