I saw Don at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix last
Wednesday. The show was very good. As usual, he
kicked
off with Dirty Laundry, during which I noticed his
voice
cracked a couple times. During the first break, when
he
talked to the audience, he commented he had played the
the night before in Palm Springs with a 20 mph wind
blowing on stage. He said his vocal cords "feel like
beef jerky!" He drank a lot of water during the show,
which seemed to help, since you couldn't tell he was
hurting at all.
I had seen Don in Milwaukee 2 years ago, just as
Inside
Job was out. This concert seemed less focused on that
album as he only played 4 songs from it (Everything is
Different Now, Inside Job, Workin' It, and Taking you
Home). He played his usual set of hits, which all
sounded great. When they played "End of the
Innocence",
instead of the usual piano intro, the lead guitarist
played the first verse, up until the first chorus, on
a
12-string guitar, which was unique. A lengthy drum
solo
preceded All She Wants to do is Dance, which had the
crowd on their feet (really for the first time during
th
show.)
From the Eagles, he played Life in the Fast Lane,
Hotel
California (not the Mariachi version, thank goodness),
Wasted Time, and closed with Desperado. At the end of
the show, the audience was yelling for Take it Easy.
He
said "I don't sing Take it Easy...that's the other
guy...but if he were here, I'm sure he'd love to sing
it
for you. You'll have to wait for the Eagles tour,"
which was interesting since they aren't even stopping
in
or near Phoenix.
Despite his tired vocal chords, Don really put on a
good
show.

I saw Don Henley in Phoenix and thought I'd
give you a little
review...........................
Me and my girlfriend flew from Los Angeles to Phoenix
to see Henley on Wed.
April 17. As always the show was great but it had it's
moments. Don opened
up with "Dirty Laundry" but you could tell right off
the bat that his voice
needed a little more warming up! In his defense, Don
had mentioned that they
had done a show the night before in Palm Desert (I'm
not sure with who) and
that there was a twenty mph wind coming at them while
on stage. If anyone is
familiar with Palm Desert, it's just that, a
desert...dry and dusty. Don
described his vocal chords as being like "beef jerky"
.
At one point during the show a fan walked up to the
stage and must have
asked him to sing "Take it Easy" because Don replied
"that's the other guy
who sings that song, and if he were here I'm sure he'd
sing it for you" all
in good fun. Don seemed to be in quite the joking
mood. Even commenting on
the "lovely shade of gray" that the Dodge theater had
been painted. I
believe the theater is a fairly new building???
Don didn't mention anything about the new Eagles album
but had briefly
mentioned something about the next Eagles tour. What
was a surprise to me
was that Stuart Smith was playing guitar for Henley
that night. The rest of
the band seemed to be the same guys as the first
Inside Job tour. Don played
a few Eagles tunes like Wasted Time, Life in the Fast
Lane, Desperado and
Hotel California. All in all the show was a lot of fun
and I can't wait for
the Eagles summer tour.
