Back in the day (our students love that expression), the only way to get a copy of something your favorite band may have done on TV was to find someone with a recording of the show and two VCRs. The Internet has changed that. We're able to allow you to see some new and vintage appearances. The quality isn't always perfect, but you'll get the idea. If there is something you've been dying to see, please let us know. If you are looking to get hooked up with a tape of your own of recent television appearances, check out what we've got.

Eagles

Video Videos Remember when MTV actually showed videos? Well, we've put together a fairly comprehensive collection of videos made by the Eagles and members of the Eagles. This isn't all of the ones that are out there, but we think we're pretty close to having a complete collection. Please remember that some of these videos are about 20 years old, so quality isn't pristine. This is your opportunity to check out some long forgotten gems.

Central Park  (1972) The band does the special intro of Take it Easy while Glenn's hair flows freely and Henley wears more color than he ever has since! From VH1 Rarities (this is the only rarity they showed!)

Holland (1973) This trio of songs was originally broadcast in Holland in 1973, but was repackaged for UK TV in 1989 or so.

 Witchy Woman   Tequila Sunrise

Take it Easy

BBC Concert (1973) This is a fairly decent quality of the earliest incarnation of the band. People seem to love this show.

Tequila Sunrise, (73ish)  We think this is from the Howard Cosell show, but we aren't sure.

Witchy Woman, (73ish)  Again from that mystery TV show. Worth it for the faces Henley makes at the camera.

How Long, (1973) The video clip that started it all.

California Jam (1974) this clip from California Jam in 1974 which is our earliest video of something that wasn't a television show. Remember....this video footage is over 30 years old and it isn't the greatest. When I digitized it, it took out some of the static, but made the footage look jerky

Doolin' Dalton / Desperado (1974)From the Don Kirshner show.

Take it to the Limit (1976) The Eagles in Houston.

Lyin' Eyes, (1980) A rare clip of the band live at the end of their first incarnation.

Party of Two Promotional Video (early 90s) Book Joe and Glenn for your private function! Great performances.

Travis Tritt Talks About Take it Easy (1993) Very funny piece about the making of the video. Contains some outtakes and a Henley/Frey (and then Walsh) hug.

Eagles Family Tree (1994) Back when HFO was released, VH1 aired an entire week of programming (December 5th-9th, 1994). They produced a nice documentary about the history of the band featuring interviews with all of the band members, Bill Szymczyk, JD Souther, and Jackson Browne. It's a great introduction for anyone wanting to know more about the band.

Clip 1 | Clip 2 | Clip 3 | Clip 4 | Clip 5 | Clip 6 | Clip 7

Before They Were Rock Stars  (1994) VH1 showed this cute look at the Pre-Eagles career of Don and Glenn back around HFO time. Our favorite part of this is the uber-rare footage of Don and Glenn backing Linda Ronstadt back in 1971. Incidentally, those are our albums and 45s featured in the footage. We made color copies of them and sent them to VH1 for this project.

A bit of a treat (1994) From the "2nd Night" video.

Visiting with Huell Howser.  (1994) Opening night (Irvine) interviews with members of the band as well as the man who "...was the manager of the Eagles, IS the manager of the Eagles and who always WILL BE the manager of the Eagles"

Victim of Love (1995)  From Hawaii

New Kid in Town (1995) From Hawaii

Australian News Clips (1995) Julie sent us a DVD with some amazing and rare news footage of the band. We hope that you enjoy these things as much as we do.

Clip 1 is a discussion of nostaligia acts that features some great live footage.

Clip 2 features more live performances and some interviews (most notably, Don yelling in an odd way).

Clip 3 features more interview footage.

Clip 4 is our favorite. Not only does it feature THE ENTIRE BAND sitting on a sectional couch and live footage of Glenn's sunglasses shirt, but it is (to our knowledge) the only photographic evidence of the t-shirt Don wore at the HFO Little Rock concert. It has to be seen to be believed.

VH1 One to One (1996) Profile piece from when the band first played Europe during the resumption.  Contains interviews with Henley, Walsh and Felder.

Under the Covers (1997) These short clips from the Under the Covers DVD are designed to inspire you to run out and get your very own copy.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Performances (from VH1) (1998)

Rock and Roll Feuds, MTV. (1998) We don't know why we like this clip so much. Maybe it's because of how cute Glenn looks. Maybe it's because of the look on Henley's face (not to mention his posture). For those not into looking at the guys, Glenn discusses band relationships. (105KB)

The Eagles "co-host" Showbiz Today. (12/7/99)

Millennium Rap, (2000) (1.3MB) A little snippet of Funky New Year from what CNN showed right after midnight 2000. And now, thanks to Mike from Palo Alto, you can also see the countdown to midnight from a different angle. We now also have full versions of Funky New Year, Hotel California and Auld Lang Syne

Box Set Open Ended Interview (2000) Back when the box set came out, Glenn sat down for about 1/2 an hour and did an open-ended interview. This is one of those interviews where you can't hear the question so that a local person can "ask" the questions. Some of this surfaced on Helsinki TV during the European tour, but we've got the whole thing. Glenn talks about the early days of the band, the box set, the millennium show and even shows an early indication of the Felder stuff that was looming on the horizon. Even though this is just Glenn, it's got so much Eagles' history in it, that we're categorizing it an Eagles clip.

Don and Tim Talk Farewell (2003) on CNN

Media Day (2003) *The Satellite Feed videos are a blast to watch. Keep the following in mind, however. You will not be able to hear the questions being asked, but it is pretty easy to tell what is going on. At times, when they lose their connections with the station, they cut the mics. If you'd like to get an idea of which video to download, you can read the notes I've been typing up as I watch them. They are kind of in a shorthand form, but you'll get the idea.

Japanese TV (2004)  We have 4 video clips for your viewing pleasure. The clips are mostly in Japanese (though there is some English) but you can figure out quite easily what is going on. A reporter is assigned to go to LA and find both the exterior and interior locations of the Hotel California.

Clip 1: In which the reporter ends up at the Troubadour
Clip 2: In which Legolas (yes, Legolas) leads the reporter to Dan Tana's
Clip 3: In which Zorro (yes, Zorro) leads the reporter to the Lido Apartments.
Clip 4: In which the reporter ends up at Timothy's (yes, Timothy's) house
, but asks him nothing about Hotel California.

Clip 2 is an extended story of the flap made over some comments Don and Joe made about Australian Idol.

60 Minutes (2007)  Excellent interview promoting LROE.

Ribbon Cutting (2007) When the Eagles participating in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Nokia Theater LA Live! Access Hollywood ran this little piece and interviewed Glenn.

CMT Video Music Awards (April 17, 2008) Joe and Timothy walk the red carpet and present.

Eagles at Hard Rock Park (2008) Kathryn caught a special on the YES Network (the Yankee channel in New York) about the opening of the Hard Rock Park and the accompanying golf tournament.  As part of the coverage, they showcased parts of three songs from the Eagles opening night set.  You can see bits of "One of These Nights", "Life in the Fastlane" and "Desperado".

  60 Minutes Uncut CMT (2008)

Those of you who were disappointed with the original airing of the 60 Minutes interview may like this better. There's more Circle of Fear, more visiting the Troubadour and more in-context quotes. Our favorite? Hearing Waiting in the Weeds done acoustically.

                    Clip 1 | Clip 2 | Clip 3

Classic 60 Minutes (2008)

It's pretty much exactly what was shown on CMT (except that they show the band practicing Busy Being Fabulous instead of How Long). We've got it in 3 parts (warning, large files!)

                      1 | 2 | 3

The one thing that was different was this wonderful clip shown over the credits. Listen up, 60 Minutes and VH1...we want more of this stuff!

Eagles Perform at CMAs (November 12, 2008) The band didn't win, but they did a great job singing "Busy Being Fabulous". (.mov)

Pepsi Commercial (1985) Martin P was kind to send a nice high-quality verison of the first-half of Glenn's Pepsi commercial. We've got the whole commercial but the quality is icky. Thanks, Martin!

Superbowl (1986) Glenn sings Take it Easy and The Heat is On before the Superbowl.(1.0MB)

Subway to LA (1987/88) Glenn was the host when MTV rang in 1988. We've got some clips of him with co-host Jamie Gertz. There's also a few of him performing.

Strange Weather EPK (1992) We've committed Glenn's entire Strange Weather EPK to real video files. We've chunked them up into manageable download sizes. Hope you enjoy them.

Late Night With David Letterman. (1992) Glenn talks with Dave and performs Before the Ship Goes Down.

I've Got Mine, German TV (1992ish) (944KB)

Later with Bob Costas (1992) Glenn wanted to plug his Strange Weather album so he sat for a two-night interview with Bob Costas. This is a great interview because Bob Costas just lets Glenn talk and talk about his music, his friends in the music business, his songwriting, his causes and a lot of other stuff. We've broken it into 4-5 minute chunks.

Japanese TV interview (1995) (479KB) Glenn meets the King of Karaoke and makes a reporter VERY happy.

Pontiac Commercials (1996) Who is that velvet voiced man doing the voice over for these Pontiac commercials? Red Car | Black Car

Superbowl Predictions (1996) This originally aired on January 23rd, 1998.  It's kind of cheesy but it certainly is Glenn in his element. Incidentally, the score in this game was Denver 31, Green Bay 24

Signature Golf (1998) The premise of the show is that they wander around a golf course and talk to golfers and celebrities about their lives and their games. They also have the players try to recreate a famous golf shot. You can see from the clip over on the left that Glenn is quite successful at this.

Austin GF Commercial (2000) Local clip that briefly features Glenn.

Bob Hope Golf Tournament (2000) Glenn comments on the future of the Eagles and plays some funny acoustic guitar.

Arli$$ (2002) It's about time that Glenn showed up on this show about a sleazy but good-hearted sports agent. Glenn played a politician who falls victim to the polls. In order to get out of a jam, "Ken" agrees to do a commercial pushing a new product that Arliss' staff has agreed to find spokespeople for. If you look in the background of the dinner party scene, you can see long-time Eagles crew Tommy Nixon and Jerry Vaccarino posing as racecar drivers.

Sunset Grill (1985) This is from Farm Aid 1

Boys of Summer, Germany  (1985) (977KB) Excellent lip synching and lovely shoes.

Old Grey Whistle Test (1985)  Don is interviewed on this classic English show.

Boys of Summer (1985) From Top of the Pops

Patience (1988) Don filled in for the Guns n Roses drummer during this performance on the American Music Awards in the late '80s.

Much Music Profile (1989) This is the Canadian MTV's profile of Don. Features a great interview. I edited out the videos. (.mov)

Decade (1989) Back in 1989, MTV decided to do a retrospective of the 1980s. It was called "Decade" and it was like I Heart The 80's but it happened during the 80s, was a lot more serious and had no Michael Ian Black (was he even born then?).  Anyway, MTV gathered a bunch of well known people like Don, John Mellencamp and Rosanne and had them quip about the events and personalities of the 80s.  I've edited the special down to Don's snippets and tried to give a little context for them to make sense. (.mov)

Farm Aid IV  (1990)  End of the Innocence and Heart of the Matter

I Will Not Go Quietly (1990)  We put up this clip of Don performing in Nassau, NY to celebrate 10 years as a Henley fan. (bigger file, better quality)

MTV Unplugged (1990)

End of the Innocence
Heart of the Matter
Best of My Love
Come Rain or Come Shine
Desperado

Rockumentary (1990) One of the first Henley interviews we ever saw and taped for our collection was this 1990 Rockumentary (this used to be a series on MTV) in which Don sits down with Kurt Loder to talk about Satanism, family farms, and Dirty Laundry. (the 1st clip has a little from the end of the Unplugged on it so please be patient.)

Clip 1 | Clip 2 | Clip 3 | Clip 4 | Clip 5 | Clip 6

Rockumentary Outtakes  (1990) It's a compilation of Henley interview clips. Back when End of the Innocence was released (or sometime shortly thereafter), MTV's Kurt Loder spent a day at Don's former residence asking him about a bunch of stuff. The interview was chopped up and played on MTV's hourly news program. We just stuck them all together in one clip.

In Concert (1991) This was a television special. Here are Sunset Grill and New York Minute.

International Rock Awards Acceptance Speech (1991) Don accepts his Elvis  .wmv file | .mp4 file

Whoopi Goldberg Show (1991)  A nice relaxed interview. (.mov)

Heart of the Matter on the Video Music Awards (1991) One of our favorite performances. Features a bearded Don. (.mov)

CBS This Morning  (1991) CBS This Morning did a really nice profile piece explaining all of the issues surrounding Don's work at Walden. It's quite informative...and features Don with a full beard.

Clinton Inauguration (1993) Watching this stuff now in 2002 makes us a little verklempt. Remember what it was like when our country actually elected our presidents? Oh well...enough soap-boxing. Enjoy the music

Pop Tarts, Billboard Awards (1993)  Don discusses the Walden Woods project, introduces a Common Thread medley, gets tongue-twisted over pop charts, almost says the "F" word and smiles like you've never seen him smile before. (843KB)

Texans (1993) It's an interview done on local television in Texas in 1993. Don takes a reporter to Caddo Lake and talks about the environment, politics, religion, his childhood and the future of the Eagles. It's one of our favorite interviews.

Charlie Rose Show (2001) During this hour long interview, Don was candid and frank. Though it didn't get as personal as it could have and Don skirts the issue about recent events in the Eagles, it is one of the better chats with him out there. Enjoy these short video clips.
