Joe Walsh Offers to Swap Guitars With
Thief
When it comes to his friends, Joe Walsh is no average guy. The Eagles guitarist offered to autograph his own guitar and trade it with the thief who stole a guitar and other gear from The Numbers Band's frontman, Bob Kidney, said Walsh's manager, David Spero. The van that held all The Numbers Band's equipment was broken into last week, effectively putting the group out of business after 25 years. About $2,000 to $3,000 worth of equipment was stolen, including Kidney's cherished black, solid-bodied Gibson Victory guitar. Spero said Monday he sent a copy of a story about the theft to Walsh, who is in Los Angeles rehearsing for an Eagles tour. Walsh and Kidney were friends in the 1960s, when the two of them lived in Kent. "Joe called me back about 10 minutes after I faxed it," Spero said. "He was disgusted. He couldn't believe something like this happened, and he kept saying, "'We've got to do something to help Bob.'" Kidney was shocked by Walsh's offer. "Here he was, like the old days, out of nowhere," Kidney said. "It was very sweet of him. It means he hasn't changed." Kidney must wait and see if the thief takes Walsh up on the offer. He promised he would not press charges. AP
