Speculation Friday

Sain sent us this little tidbit from the Russian Rolling Stone.  I think recent comments by Joe and Glenn got lost in translation.  Here's what Sain said about the piece for those of us who don't read Cyrillic.......

Rolling Stone Russia expects the Eagles tour in 2013 with all 7 band members on stage! According to the Russian version of Rolling Stone, the show may start with Don, Glenn, Bernie and Randy performing their early songs, then Don Felder will appear for harder mid-70s stuff and Joe Walsh and Timothy will be next to step on stage. They also wrote that the key problem for this plan is Don Felder but the Eagles shall get over their past conflicts, pride and ambitions. It's the 40th anniversary after all...

When hell freezes over again

And, I thought I had read that Randy was in the beginning stages of Alzheimers disease. I guess if that is true or not, it would depend on what stage he is at.

I believe both Heaven and Hell would freeze over before this happens. It would be cool, but I seriously have my doubts.

SLOW? I guess in "Eagle Land Proper" it might be slow but in Alumni land there's a great new solo album from Don Felder with interviews and press all over the place ......

Slow, really?

Wait, have you seen the other articles on that Media Mass site? Are they for real? Glenn has a new partner and a new baby on the way!?

Slow...really? I mean...really? Don Felder is e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e promoting his excellent new album.

It's your bandwidth, so feel free to create your own reality. But, there's no need to rub it in, is there?

All 7 Eagles,- that would be exceptional!............It sounds a little hard to believe that Don & Glenn would accept Don Felder back on any level,- maybe if he refunded some of his settlement proceeds.

I sure hope that Randy is not dealing with Alzheimers.

Don Felder has an excellent fansite that you are all welcome to visit. It isn't our wish to step on their toes and duplicate what they are doing. I suggest all of you who aren't interested in the current Eagles visit www.felderfans.com

Henley, Frey, Walsh, and Schmit also have fan sites. It is disingenuous to suggest that you have no problem stepping on their toes in reporting various solo activities by band members.

It is also disingenuous to use a term like "current Eagles". I log on to this site using a bookmark, but I believe it is still titled "eaglesfans.com" - not "currenteaglesfans.com", or "Ilovetowatchawomandancefans.com", or anything else along those lines.

As long as a self-tribute cover band continues to play Eagles songs such as 'Take It To The Limit', 'Witchy Woman', and 'Hotel California' (as they did just last month in Atlantic City, NJ), all 7 musicians who contributed to a continuing legacy are most certainly "current Eagles".

Lisa and Melissa - Yes, everyone loves your site and there is no argument you provide an invaluable online resource of information about the Eagles for their fans. And, you do it much better than any site, including “official “ sites, dedicated to the band or the individual members. And, of course, like Dave said, it’s your bandwidth, and you are free to allocate it as you wish. But, how about we call a spade a spade here. We get updates on the site about solo albums from Bernie Leadon and even people related to the Eagles on the peripheral like JD Souther.

If you choose to not report on news about the new solo album by a former member of the band, just say it’s because you don’t like Don Felder. To use an excuse that there are other sites reporting, commenting on, and reviewing the new record and that’s why the sentinel Eagles online resource hasn’t said anything about it, is almost silly.

I know how hyper sensitive you get about any direct or indirect criticism of the “real” band members and of anything you do/don’t do with the site, so I apologize. I am sure the resounding reaction to this comment will be everyone (except Dave) coming back with the ever so grown up variation of “if you don’t like it start your own site.” But, to say the reason you don’t report on a new Felder album is because another fan site is doing it, doesn’t fit with the attention you have afforded other former (Leadon) and related (Souther) members of the band.

If you don’t like Don Felder, because of the lawsuit or because of a book you think is poorly written, or because you have the misguided opinion that his contribution had very little to do with the success of the band for the last 35 years, just let everyone know. If this is the place to find information on all the Eagles and their friends, except one, it’s ok. Just don’t insult fans of your site with a comment that information is not here because it can be found someplace else online.

I saw in an interview with Don Felder recently that he said when he wrote songs he had to make them not so complex so that Henley could play the drum parts and Frey could play the guitar parts. (not a direct quote) Complexity in a song is not the key to writing a good song for the masses. Simple melodies with harmonies and meaningful lyrics is what people want to hear (Lyin Eyes for example). He gave very little credit to Henley for Hotel California and none to Frey. That song has Henly/Frey written all over it! Obviously Walsh and Shmidt didn't make a fit about him being ousted. My brother who is a local jazz player told me he was going to switch to the Blues because jazz players play a thousand chords for 3 people and Blues players play three chords for a thousand people -simplify. Felder came across as very bitter. I don't believe they will ever be playing music with him again.

The news about Randy Meisner having alzheimer's disease (in addition to his previous health issues) are spreading
http://www.dustyspringfield.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4049

Of course, no official word from anyone. But I take it that Randy is not fit to participate in any ongoing festivities concerning the Eagles, which is a great shame. Alzheimer's is a horrible disease.

I think Don Henley is an awesome, awesome drummer, and to be able to play and sing simultaneously is remarkable in my opinion. I heard years ago that his son is a really good drummer.

Don Felder's new album is awesome. Perfect gutar parts, perfect melody, perfect performers (Steve Lukather, David Paich, Crosby Stills and Nash,...) and perfect production.
It sounds so Eagles.
Eagles miss Don Felder.

I've seen quite a few rumors that Randy Meisner(my favorite Eagle) has Alzheimer's and another form of dementia, but I have seen one disclaimet. I truly hope it's not true. No nicer Eagle ever was.
