George's Review |
Once again, an excellent
show. Just as good as 1994 HFO and 2002's tour.
Don's voice is perfect, Glen is great except for the
higher notes on You Belong To The City, Timothy
is perfect and Joe rocked the house with his
awesome guitar. I believe the surprise hit of the show
was when Don sang Wasted Time. The instruments
are so low during the first part of the song
that it was a good way for people who haven't heard it
in a while to re-appreciate the lyrics. I truly
think by the reaction from the crowd that people
somewhat rediscovered that song last night. The only
variation in the set list was - remove Pretty Maids
and move Hole In The World there (nothing replaced it
in the 2nd set). Hole In The World (a post 9/11 song)
is a very nice balled with great harmonies. Glen Frey
dedicated Lyin' Eyes to his first wife :) and
repeated is joke of last year when he said "this
next song was written by Don and I, with and for Randy
Meisner - this song is what my wife thinks about
our credit card - this song is called Take It To
the Limit". Still very funny! The slower songs are so
touching from them - the ENTIRE audience almost sang
louder than the band on Take It To The Limit,
New Kid In Town, Love Will Keep Us Alive, Tequila
Sunrise, Desperado, Wasted Time and Lyin Eyes.
The sense of community you get when you sing
like that with 20,000 people along with the band is
amazing. Worth the $ just for that if you've never
experienced it.
If I could alter the set list I would remove Sunset
Grill and replace it with either Heart of the
Matter or The Last Resort. I would also remove
Turn to Stone and let Timothy do a solo song there.
Other than that, it was an excellent show. Very
well worth the money.
For those of you who are not sure whether to go or not
- these guys are legends in their own time and you
don't often get to see that. They will be
regarded in the musical history books as elite
songwriters and performers. Don't wait to see
them hoping they will come again. It's not worth
the risk of missing something like this. I met at
least 4 people who had never seen them in
concert before and they were blown away and were so
glad they decided to go ahead and do this. |

From the first note to
the last, the May 19 Atlanta show was my best concert
experience ever. All the guys were on the mark and
sounded great. The sellout crowd was on its feet for
most of the night. They setlist was mostly the same
although no Pretty Maids.
I took my niece, Becky with me as a mother's day
present from her 3 little girls. She was raised up on
these songs and sang along with every one and danced
all night. I guess I had forgotten how this music
influenced our lives.
Don smiled a lot and Joe was his usual clown self.
Hole In The Wall quickly turned into a crown pleaser.
I loved the little dance Glen did to All She Wants To
Do Is Dance.
All in all, a great experience.

Unfrigging believable.
Best concert of my life. I have never ever enjoyed a
concert more than the Eagles last night. I cannot
believe they are fifty something. They sounded so
good. My seats were nosebleed, literally in the
lights, but we had aisle seats and it was perfect.
David was such a trooper considering he had been up
since 4:30 a.m. and had to get up today at 4:30. They
played for 3 hours. It was 11:40 when we were leaving
after the last, third I think, encore. If I could go
again tonight I would. I'm serious. If I had someone
to go hang out with me to buy tix at the door, I would
be there. You guys are going to have a ball. And
really and truly the place was smoke free.... I
couldn't believe it. The ladies restroom
reminded me of high school days where the smokers
would go at recess and have a smoke. other than that,
it was totally awesome. I am on an Eagle high today.
Keep in mind I saw them in concert when they
originally toured in the mid 70's. This was only
stronger, better, but still crazy after all these
years! |

This was my third time
seeing the guys. I saw them on the HFO Tour and last
year in Birmingham. They just keep getting better.
Armed with my set list,
courtesy of Eaglesfans.com, I struck out for Philips
Arena with my wife.
The guys came out about 8:25. Black was the color of
the night, with the exception of Glenn's black and
white print shirt and Joe's gray velour pajama pants.
Glenn complimented his outfit with some snappy black
and white spats. Henley looked cool with the longer
hair and has dropped a few pounds. Glenn was dapper,
Tim was Tim and Joe, of course, was Joe.
From the first note of The Long Run to the final chord
of Desperado, it was just fantastic. The guys followed
the set list with the exception of "Hole in the World"
being moved to the the first set in the place of
"Pretty Maids". I loved the new song. It was very
soulful, sounding at times like a 50's Motown song
with tight harmonies.
Some of the songs had different intros. If I had not
had the set list, I might have been surprised. As
stated many times, Joe was very low key during the
first set, but he makes up for it during the second,
reminding us just why he is in the group, apart from
his fantastic guitar playing, which is his crazy
personality. Glenn smilingly welcomed us to Farewell I
and added that it was setting up Farewell V and VI and
added that it was going to be a long goodbye. At the
beginning of the second set, he welcomed us to
Farewell II. The guys seemed to genuinely have fun
(even Don). They did sing along with the songs. Don
even got into the act, hopping around in tandem with
the rest of the guys on Dirty Laundry. So, with that I
will end my random thoughts by saying bring on the new
album and the corresponding tour!!!!!

I'm going to skip all
the usual "the guys were great, best concert ever
stuff" and try to say some things that others
haven't said (or haven't said as frequently).
First of all, the set
is awesome!! I love the screens and the lighting. It
really made the concert experience better. Sometimes
it was live feed shown behind them, but mostly it
was scenes and effects. (Funk 49, Love Will Keep Us
Alive, Boys of Summer were some standouts as far as
the screen scenes go.) Some effects were falling
leaves, highway scenes, beaches, water, lava lamps,
and many more.
The guys all sounded
great, but I think Joe might have not felt well.
Towards the end, he had on a jacket and a towel
wrapped around his neck, and it was hot as fire in
philips-so maybe he wasn't feeling well...I also
think he cut his talk box solo a little short..the
shortest I've ever heard it. Funk 49, Turn to
Stone, Walk Away and LBG were all great though.
Don was amazing. He
looked like a deity with the light shining down on
him during Wasted Time...and he was into it more
than I've ever seen him. His voice was in good form
as well. I like James Dean more than Witchy Woman,
but I thought it was way too long in the 2nd set
before Don got a lead vocal. He needs a couple more
leads...would love to hear Sad Cafe but I knew I
wouldn't on this tour. I can't believe how much I
love Sunset Grill live...it is one of my favorites
and I never liked it that much before I heard it
live.
Timothy is a real team
player. He was great as always. I really think it
is cool when he and Glenn sing together on You
Belong To The City.
Now on to Glenn. I
went to Birmingham last year and couldn't really
argue against those that said Joe stole the show.
But tonight belonged to Glenn in my opinion. His
vocals are the best I've heard them, and he was
really playing to the crowd. Heartache Tonight was
great, and so was You Belong and New Kid in Town. I
miss Joe's end guitar solo in Take it Easy, but it
was good too.
I thought the
interaction between all of them was greater than
ever too. Its not that Joe wasn't awesome as always,
but I think the other guys are starting to loosen up
quite a bit. It makes it much more entertaining
when everyone is into it.
Steuert nailed every
guitar part. He did some cool harmonics on Love Will
Keep Us Alive, much better than Felder's slide IMO.
That's all I can think
of. I can't wait to go back tomorrow!!!
