Greg's Review |
I've been an Eagles fan
since 1972 and have seen them on every tour(sometimes
more than once) since the beginning. On this Memorial
Day they returned to a Cincinnati venue at which they
had not appeared since the Long Run tour in 1980!!
The vocals and musicianship are still remarkable, but
frankly I felt like the emphasis on execution and
precision made this show feel a little sterile.
The pacing and set list made it feel as if Joe Walsh
took a backseat instead of being featured as he was
last year Colorado Springs show).
I thought the entire band frankly was a little tired
(or bored). I really think the next time around, they
need to incorporate a lot of the new material (forget
"Hole in the World", its a sleeper) and drop the horn
section( that's not country rock) which seemed to be a
substitute for some of Joe's guitar playing on songs
like "Funk 49".
The guys are playing it too safe. There are so many
great songs in the catalog that need to be added. to
the live show.
On a positive note, because I did enjoy the show,
Henley absolutely nails "Wasted Time". Walsh's best
moment was on "Turn to Stone" and the backing
harmonies were superb. Frey was solid on "James Dean"
though I missed the guitar licks that Felder provides
to that track.
For those of us long time fans forking out big bucks
for tickets, take a risk next time out guys.

After a 10-15 minute
video about some of the sound productions, the Eagles
opened the show with a good rock n roll song in The
Long Run. They ended the show with Desperado. In
between they played a total of 29 songs - including
James Dean.
Don seemed to hit all his high tunes, especially with
Hole In The World. He was very good in singing Sunset
Grille. Did notice he did not spend a lot time sitting
in the chair playing the drums. Rock on Don.
Glen once again displayed his talents with piano,
keyboard and of course guitar playing - very good. His
voice is still there. Rock on Glen.
Tim's voice in 2003 sounds just like it did 1994 when
he sang Love Will Keep Us Alive. Has that been 9 years
ago? Rock on Tim.
Joe Walsh - you're the man! In the first set it was
difficult hearing Joe's guitar but the producer must
have corrected the problem as his tunes were awesome
in the 2nd set. He did have a minor guitar problem
once in the show which required a quick change by a
stage hand. The Helmet Fancam came out which brought a
big roar from the crowd. Joe, you are awesome man!
It appears this year Stewart is sometimes used for
some background harmonies. This man is a very talented
guitar picker. Rock on Stewart.
A pretty good show last night, but they might need a
break for some R & R. I thought a couple times they
got out of rhythm but everything took care of itself.
Being close to their ages, the men can still no doubt
get it on and rock and roll. Looking forward to St
Louis on June 6 - be there. Rock on Eagles.

The concert in Cincy was
like all the other ones. The set list was well thought
out. It peaked when it should have, and went back down
when it should have. It was perfect. They played all
the songs they had to like " Take It Easy, Desperado,
Peaceful, Hotel Ca".. The addition of James Dean was a
surprise. The fast foreword video of the camera on the
dash board, was tremendous. The Eagles are so slick.
That's why they need Mr. Walsh for contrast. Mr.
Henley is so painfully serious. Mr. Frey is so stiff.
You need Mr. Walsh for comic relief. The highlight of
the show was what Mr. Walsh does best. PLAY GUITAR.
Five fingers makes a
hand. There was one finger not there. I did miss
Mr.Felder. Mr. Smith played all the notes correctly,
but something was different. There was no pedal steel,
mandolin, or that fat hummbucker sound that Mr. Felder
had on " One of These Nights". I guess you can never
look back, you can never look back. It seemed to
be that they played too many solo tunes. I understand
that Mr. Walsh has only two songs that he sings lead
on. So a few of his other songs let him shine. We were
there to see and here The Eagles. At one point I
thought I heard a song from the Miami Vice Soundtrack.
Maybe I was having a Sonny Crockett flashback. They
have so many songs that are timeless. Why did they
choose that one? Maybe they changed from a
country rock band , to a rock band. Farewell 1 was a
perfectly executed concert, but I think I will miss
Farewell 2. I've "Already Gone". Jamie. |

Fifty year old guys with
songs mostly written in the '70s - out of date and
lame huh? Not even close. Eagles never disappoint. I
saw them last year in Columbus, Ohio and this year in
Cincinnati there was no drop off. I thought that no
one could top an audience's chiming in with Billy
Joel's "Piano Man" a few years ago in Cincinnati, but
this audience and concert did. While the Eagles did
not pause to let the audience sing (but one time
during Desparado - thanks Don), you could hear
everyone around you singing throughout the entire
concert. Nothing better than to "sing along" with the
Eagles. Only low point of concert was that I had to
buy second level tickets instead of floor tickets. A
band truly stands the test of time when it has the
greatest selling album of all time, and when their
fans (myself included) can listen to their CDs
endlessly and watch their DVD to the point of having
to buy a new one. Everyone was on their game in
Cincinnati. Don is/was/will be the greatest vocalist
of all time. Glenn is/was/will remain one of the best
song writers, all-around guys, the glue of the band,
and singer of all times. Joe - what can you say -
"He's Cool". Undoubtedly the most laid back, but
greatest, guitar player of all time. Tim blends in a
great voice that only amplifies and further
distinguishes the Eagles' sound. The new single "Hold
in the World" did not disappoint. Cannot wait for the
new CD, and most of all Farewell II. There are few
bands on this earth that it would be a shame if you
did not see live before you die - and the Eagles are
#1 on that list. You owe it to yourself to go. |

I saw the show in... Cincinnati, we drove from Indy
My favorite part was... when Don sang Hole in the
World. It was as if "oh boy, there are really great
songs to come in the future!"
My least favorite part was.... having to leave when
it was over
The band members were.....awesome
The show made me feel.....like a kid again
One thing I'll never forget is..... When Don looked
right at me while he was singing.
Other comments .......I wanted to blow Don a kiss but
my husband was watching my reaction so I held back. I
had great seats right in front of famous baseball
player Paul O'Neill, who by the way kicked my beer
over and gave me a dirty look when I asked if he could
get me backstage to see the Eagles. He did get to
back. But he didn't take me.All in all it was the best
time I ever had at a concert. I wish they'd come to
Indy.
