Chicago Reviews

Tami's Review

Tuesday night's concert at the All State Arena was so incredible. I can not believe that for the 2nd time in my life, in actually just 4 months, I boarded an airplane and flew to another state just to attend a concert with friends. But these are no ordinary concerts either. And neither were the friends. The band was more energetic and animated than they were in Denver, which is really hard for me to believe. I thought Denver was perfect. But Chicago was rockin' harder than the Rockies this time. Once again I had front row seats (thank you Karen!) I learned a lot in the hours leading to the concert, how to Kinko your way to ticket master, and how to hang out at the box office in hopes of better seats. The box office came thru at almost 6 pm, 3 front row seats in front of Timothy !!! So the guy goofed...no biggy. 3 front row seats in front of Joe was just fine with me !!! And I scalped our other tickets while in line !! Is it still considered scalping when you sell them way under face value? The guys sounded better than ever, and all looked great, but I swear Timothy looks a little thinner. They were kind with their words to the windy city, and the city was kind right back at them. There was screaming and cheering, as well as standing ovations and sing alongs. I could have done without all the beer and the stupidity it causes. You would think people in the very front row actually wanted to see the show, but I had to stand up and move so many times it was ridiculous. I actually traded seats with a friend in the 4th row and ended up with a better view. I moved up front once in a while, security was very kind and let me roam. Don was just incredible, and for once didn't have that pajama look. His vocals were tight and right on the money !! Glenn was a dancing fool, he was all over the place. Joe had his quick wits and great sense of humor( when doesn't he), and Timothy was.......well, Timothy !!! Gorgeous perfection with the voice of an angel. From The Long Run to Desperado, it all seem to go too fast. With flight time and layovers, it took me almost 12 hours to get home from a 3 hour concert. I love attending but hate the ending !! I met some valuable friends I have only shared e-mails and IM's with. It just wasn't long enough, it to was over as quick as the concert. I can't wait for the next tour and I hope they play the LA area next time. That way, you all can come to me !! And for those of you who know me, I got some great food footage !! As well as 14 pics on a mini cam from the concert, but I can't figure out how to retrieve them !!!

Lynn's Review

Last night my husband and I  saw the Eagles at the All State Arena in Rosemont (Chicago). They started about 8:10 - as soon as they walked on stage, the entire crowd stood and stayed that way through most of the night.

"Wasted Time" - beautiful, Don Henley nailed it perfectly, what an awesome voice.
"Peaceful Easy Feeling" - Glenn sounded very good & and the audience sung every word along with him.
They followed the usual set list and I think the only change I would make would be to drop "You belong to the City."  Glenn can't find those high notes anymore and he has other song choices that would serve his voice better. "Lying Eyes" and "Take it to the Limit" were introduced with his usual jokes and he sounded great on both.
Timothy did his two songs and was his quiet self except when he ran over to stage right to jam with Stuart Smith -- both of them laughing.
Glenn was pretty funny doing his dance imitation with the horn section on Don's "All she want to do is dance."  Joe was awesome and his usual slapstick self with his tongue hanging out everywhere and his guitar playing was amazing. He had on camouflage pants, a green sweatshirt and a red beret.  He stole most of the show and the crowd loved him & the helmet cam.
All and all a great concert -- Don Henley's voice is beautiful and he can sing anything and not miss a note. All of the guys were enjoying themselves - laughing and smiling.  During one song, I can't remember which one -- they were all on guitar - in a line & jumping up and down (Joe started it) -- Don Henley jumping?  One of the best concerts I've ever seen.  The only thing I would change would be the cutting of the lights between songs, I think its a little silly.  Well worth the hefty price - I'm looking forward to Farewell II.

Catherine's Review

I died and went to heaven. Six of us went to this concert because we grew up
with Eagles. I've been to Allstate to see Elton/BillyJoel concert, and
Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Elton was showing his age, Billy too, but he
can still sing. CSNY were great. BUT THE EAGLES WERE FANTASTIC! An
unbelievable concert! I've heard people say they put on a good concert. And
I saw them in the 70s. But nothing could've clued me in as to how GOOD this
concert would be. Three of us girls cried to the first few songs...I couldn't
sit still for the Jammin songs...and they were Jammin!. The guys were
singing and boppin. Three or was it four encores. Nobody wanted them to
stop, the cheering was deafening- and my ears hurt this morning. It was well
worth not getting in til 1:30 am and having to go to work. I'm telling my
brothers (who play Eagle music as musicians) that they don't know what they
missed, (they get up at 4am so didn't go on a Tues). Any price is worth
seeing a concert like this one. I cant stop smiling :-)

Jamie's Review

I saw the show in...Chicago, IL at the Allstate Arena
on October 21, 2003. My husband and I saw them when
they came to St. Louis in June. I was hoping that
they would come to Chicago since it is not that far of
a drive from St. Louis. My husband was unable to go
so at the last minute I drove up, got a ticket and saw
a fabulous show!

My favorite part was...it is hard to choose a favorite
part, there were so many! Don singing "Wasted Time"
was great. His voice just gets better. I also
enjoyed his "we're not video material anymore" bit
before singing Hole In The World. He eleborated more
on it than he did in St. Louis. I think when they
were in St. Louis the song had just been released.

My least favorite part was....the people who were
constantly getting up and going for beers, which then
meant they were constantly getting up and going to the
bathroom. How many beers can you drink and then drive
home safely? It was annoying to have someone tap you
on the shoulder to let them go by when you are all
involved in the concert. Arg!!!

The band members were.....enthusiastic and were having
a great time! They gave everything they had for 3
hours.

The show made me feel.....great! It was a treat to
get to see them twice in one year.

One thing I'll never forget is.....2 of the encore
songs. "All She Wants to do is Dance" was so much
fun! Watching Glenn dance with the horn section and
seeing Joe do his own little dance was great! Oh,
seeing Don put his arms around his self while singing
"and make romance" was cute too (Glenn did the same
thing during "Heartache Tonight"). At the end of
"Desparado" I was watching the big screen while Don
was singing and they had a side shot of him bowing his
head when he finshed "before its too late" and it was
just a really poignant moment.

Other comments .......I heard only positive comments
about the concert. It was good to see people of all
ages there. While we were lining up to get into the
arena, there was a daughter who brought her father. A
guy who was a few seats down from me said that the
last time he saw them was when they performed in
Grants Park for a benefit! I think he said that was
in the early 70's. He said he wanted to see them
before they retired. I know that I am being selfish
but I hope that they don't retire for quite awhile. I
look forward to their new CD and to another tour!
Thanks to the Eagles for a great summer/fall!
