 Rocky's Review

I saw the show in Concord CA. Chronicle Pavilion 8-20-03, as always the band was tight, I did have mix-feelings about Don Felder's exit, but I must say Steuart Smith was perfection on guitar. I really enjoyed the Joe Walsh rockers, Turn to Stone, Rocky Mountain Way, Life's Been Good So Far, Funk 49...........the horn section was icing on a band that has the smoothest harmonies, all around mellow to hard rock jammin', they seemed to enjoy playing as much as I enjoyed watching, and listening. My favorite part was the ballads, even though I'm a rocker. I just can't get enough 4 and 5 part harmonies! Don Felder will be missed but what a replacement in Steuart Smith, Don Henley still amazes me singing to perfection and playing drums, Glenn Frey is still one of the best singers around. Their band is some of the finest musicians around. Timothy B. Schmitt is a wonderful songwriter singer, I can't tell you why is still one of my all time favorite Eagle songs. Eagles still put on the finest show around. Don't miss them!

Lizanne's Review

I saw the show in Concord

My favorite part was the whole thing

My least favorite part was intermission

The band members were fantastic

The show made me feel nostalgic

One thing I'll never forget is  how it was the best concert I've ever been too!

Other comments  ...Just wish Don Henley sang more and told a couple of jokes he seems quiet.....

KKaneko's Review

I arrived to the show a bit late.  Parking was all backed up and I ended up getting out of the car before the lot and sprinting to the gates.  The show must have been sold out, or very close to it.  I walked in as the "Technology of the Show" thing was playing.  This was my seventh time seeing them; 1994 (3), 1995 (2), 2002 (1), so I knew what to expect.

This show ended up being VERY different though.  The volume was a bit lower than most shows in Concord, but the SOUND QUALITY was THE BEST I've ever heard in the 200+ shows I've seen.  All of the instruments seemed to be miked perfectly, and the mix was also perfect.  The guitars in Tequila Sunrise sounded perfect.  The sound of the drums had a crisp tone I've never heard before.  During Sunset Grill, the keyboards really stood out.  There is a point where they have a close-up of the keyboard on the screens, and you hear the notes so clear.  Has anyone caught the number Walsh says during Life's Been Good?  I only remember "My Maserati does Nine hundred fifty million..........."  I was cracking up when he crammed it into a short space.  Hole In The World, Turn to Stone and James Dean were nice additions to the set, but I'm holding out for Ol'55!!!

This was definitely my favorite Eagles show I've seen, if not my favorite show ever.  I'm glad I saw this show instead of the SJ show.  Every time I go there, the venue has problems with echoing.  Since quality is so important to them, I don't understand why most of the shows are in arenas.  It also raises the question to me, "Why don't all bands have the same quality of sound when you see them live?"

Ronda's Review

Back to back concerts – Sacramento on Tuesday, and Concord on Wednesday. The Concord crowd was ROCKIN’ and SMOKIN’ the whole night. This was an outdoor concert and a Bay Area crowd – it was definitely looser than in Sacramento, with a party atmosphere going on from the front rows all the way back to the lawn. The warm smell of colitis could have made this night easily pass for a concert from the late seventies! The weather and the band were literally perfect – a great summer evening with a great group. The band really responded to the crowd throughout the night. I was in the 3rd row closer to Timothy at this show and moved up to the front row for the encores. Glenn, Timothy, Don and Joe were really getting the vibe from this crowd and responding musically. Joe made his distortion on Rocky Mountain Way dirtier than usual, and even took a couple of timing liberties with his solos that I hadn’t heard in Sacramento or St. Louis. Glenn spent a bit more time with the Lyin’ Eyes “Plaintiff” joke, saying, “Naw, it’s okay. I met Mrs. Right. I just didn’t know her first name was “Always!” He laughed and apologized, and said, “These are just the jokes. I help around the house. I do things… to make up for 20 years of bad living.” Then he finished with, “I don’t know why I’m talking so much, I don’t usually say all this!” The band was cracking up, and Glenn turned to Don on the drums, and they laughed together as they kicked off the song.

I was reminded throughout the night how completely competent and dependable these guys are as musicians. Everyone performed their craft, and for the nay-sayers who think they are passé or predictable, forget about it. These guys are still doing what it takes to entertain.

The bummer on this show was that the parking situation in Concord totally stinks – the lots filled quickly, and we were diverted from the show to park a few miles away to ride a shuttle in. I actually picked a side street and walked A REALLY LONG WAY and missed most of the first set. Thank God I’d seen the Sacramento show the night before. I decided to have a really large beer and “Get Over It!” It wasn’t a problem, and the Eagles made it well worth the effort.
