Paige's Review

I attended the concert in Detriot, and man what a night! I actually found myself wondering how it was possible that the Eagles sounded better in concert than the CDs!

I can't pinpoint a favorite part of the show. The band was so tight, and all the guys hit every note perfectly. They were all in great spirits and really ready to rock! I took my young son with me, and really felt good about it - the Eagles put on a very clean show. The sound was amazing and crystal clear and their voices were fabulous!

Don was very upbeat and joking with the crowd. At one point he even interjected the score of the Cubs baseball game for the "sports fans in the crowd." His voice has not weaked at all with time. It is super strong and beautiful to hear live! The crowd just loved him!

Glenn was funny, too, as usual. He actually dedicated "Lyin' Eyes" to his cousins who were in the crowd, instead of his usual "first wife, Plaintiff." Everyone roared at that. He also made a few special comments about Detriot being his hometown and thanking his mother for making him take piano lessons all those years. His voice is just as smooth and strong as ever. His guitar solos were first rate as well.

Timothy was in a great mood as well. He ran over to the edge of the stage at one point with Steuart Smith to play for some fans that he apparently knew. At the end of the concert, he threw a bunch of his guitar picks out to the audience, which made many people with floor seats very happy! His singing was superb and right on with his high notes. Wonderful to listen to!

And Joe . . . well, what can you say about Joe. He's great! All he had to do was hit one or two notes of one of his songs, and the crowd went crazy. He just made that guitar scream! His voice was very strong, and he held some notes longer than I've heard him hold them before. He definitely rocked the hardest, and the band was really into it with him. Glenn laughed a lot during Joe's songs and performances (as did the crowd).

The only thing I didn't like had nothing to do with the Eagles. It was people getting up in the middle of songs to get a beer, go to the bathroom, whatever. It would be nice if people could wait until a song is over for that stuff. Also, like a reviewer for Toronto, I don't get why people leave before the encores are over. I find it rude, and quite frankly, puzzling. Those are the songs most people wait to hear. But I guess this is just all part of going to a concert.

I'll never forget that evening for lots of reasons. The top two being that it was the best concert I've ever seen and heard. Also, the fact that I could take my son and not be concerned about trash talking on stage (there were a few drunks behind us, but they soon left). He really enjoyed it, and I'm so glad I could share my love of Eagles' music with him.

R.J.'s Review

A great night for a concert. Stormy weather had brought rain all day and seemed to delay people from getting to the Palace on time. Tickets said the show started at 8, the radio station was saying 8:10, finally at 8:20 the "Backstage Pass" video clip came on, announcing the Eagles would be on in 5 minutes. This clip was almost the same as what is included with the "Hole in the World" single, with a few more clips. As promised, as soon as the video ended the house lights went down and the almost sell-out crowd roared the band on stage.

The set-list was the same as listed on site, which I had printed off and in my pocket, just so we would know when to get a drink. This, as we soon saw, was impossible. My mom and I had 4th row center seats on the floor, and once you were in, there was no leaving without making everyone in the row get up. I seemed to be the youngest person within the first five rows (I'm 17), and this was my first Eagles concert. The show was unbelievable, and worth every penny. The band was in a generally good mood throughout the show, especially Henley and Frey. Frey made a mention of being from Royal Oak, and that he had cousins in the audience (whom he dedicated Lyin Eyes to, not his first wife).

Highlights: "Wasted Time" was great, Henley's voice really has gotten better, everything he sang sounded at least as good as the album version. "One of these Nights" was also very good, but needed that last line, "An' I wanna say Ahhhhhh!!!!". Frey's voice has weakened a bit, which he covers up almost perfectly by kind of singing in a whisper on some songs. Schmidt needs more than two songs, his voice has not aged at all. The biggest crowd reaction came from Henley's extended "love" from "Desperado's" last line. Walsh's helmet cam was a big hit, as was his destroying of his guitars strings at the end of "Lifes Been Good".
Lowlights: The horn section is nice on songs that had horns to begin with, but otherwise they're just annoying, and what's with the outfits?? The "Tequila" instrumental is pointless, along with the "Wasted Time" reprise. The second set has a few too many solo efforts in a row, these slots could be filled with any of the bands hits. I can't say too much bad about the greatest band and the greatest concert ever, except that I cant wait for Farewell II.

Gary's Review

I attended the Eagles concert in Auburn Hills on Tuesday night.  I had been lucky enough to have seen them a year before in Grand Rapids.  I felt like this peformance was not as strong as the one in Grand Rapids.

The sound was too loud to the point of distoration.  I was not the only one feeling that was.  I was an audio engineer for 13 years and have had concert experience.  The audio was too loud.  At the beginning the harmonies were not together, partly becasuse the aduio engineer was probably still working on a balance.

I thought that some of the things that have made the Eagles so popular over the years is there simplicity of performance.  it seemed like they relied on more glitz than before.  I also thought at times Don's voice was not as strong as I have heard it in the past.  The group has been thru a lot lately and maybe some of that emotion is wearing on them.  I just felt the voice quality was lacking in places.  i did enjoy hearing Timithy singing but I wonder when he will get a greater solo role.  He has such a unique voice and I think we are cheated for not hearing more of him.

I am looking forward to see them again, hopefully in a smaller venue.  Maybe the Palace was just not the place to set up shop.  Justr wondering what others of you who were in attendnace thought.

 Chris' Review

The Detroit show was my second Eagles' concert after Grand Rapids last
year. Grand Rapids was great. Detroit was even better. This time
around my favorite performances were actually some of the solo songs.
The Boys of Summer was fantastic with the whole band really into it.
Turn to Stone (which wasn't done in Grand Rapids) left me saying nothing
but wow and feeling numb. The first set was solid but the second set was
incredible. It just kept building and building with the mix of solo
songs, highlighted by Joe's efforts, and band songs culminating in Life
in the Fast Lane. Hotel California was suburbly performed including the
subtle horn intro to settle the crowd down and allow everyone to hear the
opening bars.

My least favorite parts were the lack of overall energy in the "cheap"
seats and people who left early. Who leaves during Hotel California?
There were also a few individuals who felt the need to talk through a lot
of the concert.

Specific music notes would include Joe's performance on In the City. He
nailed it, when in other performances his voice has been weaker on the
higher parts. Glen's voice was better than in Grand Rapids with the only
problems occuring during the verses of You Belong to the City where it
either cracked slightly or the mixing wasn't good. TBS doing the
background vocals on the song actually out vocalized Glen at some
points. Henley was bang on and surprisingly funny and energetic given
his Mother's recent death. Very professional.

The biggest problem with Eagles' concerts I find is that they are so good
that they "ruin" other concerts that just don't measure up. I can't wait
for next time.
