Green Bay, WI!!! The
Eagles are coming! It's been on the news and it's
been the "water cooler" talk for weeks! Green Bay
truly rolled out the red carpet for the Boys of
Summer. "Why has it taken us so long to get
here?!?" - quipped Frey after the opening song.
The night started off
with the fan gathering at Anduzzi's Sports Bar -
just down the street from the Resch Center. Finally
got to meet the infamous L&M, et al as well as a
fun-loving group of beautiful ladies from
Rhinelander, WI. (GO HODAGS!!!). Few Eagles tunes
played by the DJ, some cold suds being poured by the
bartender and lot of camaraderie all around!
Quick walk over to the
Resch Center where the 40ish-50ish crowd was
gathering. About 8:05 the house lights dropped and
the gentelmen hit the stage. The crowd went nuts as
Henley and the gang launched into THE LONG RUN.
Being that it was a Saturday night the fans were in
GREAT spirits. Loud cheers all night and
appropriate quiet where necessary (Wasted Time &
reprise).
The setlist, Frey's
jokes and the band's attire were all status quo from
other shows. I truly believe that the story of the
night were the people of Green Bay. We are a small
city of about 100,000 people. The "little man
syndrome" is quite popular at times when teams from
Chicago or Minneapolis come to play our beloved
Packers. We're not used to getting acts of this
caliber in our town - and I believe we responded
appropriately. Joe Walsh was on fire and having a
great time. Tim Schmidt seemed to love the applause
and the fans. It was a glorious night - one that we
hoped would never end.
Thanks to the Eagles for
coming to our town. When the horn section wore the
cheeseheads about midway through the show I think
there was a smile on everyone's face! The world's
greatest band has a new venue where they will always
be welcomed back!
