It's 12:45 a.m. and I
have just returned home from by far the most amazing
concert experience I can remember. I should also add
that this was my first Eagles concert. This said,
expect a rather long-winded review with lots of
adjectives and exclamation points!
The Eagles played at Arco Arena here in Sacramento -
indoors, probably about 15,000 seats. While it wasn't
a sold out show, there were very few empty seats
throughout the arena, mostly on the sides in the upper
sections. The crowd ranged in age from pre-teens with
their parents to 60-ish couples, but the bulk of them
were 40-somethings (like me). Everyone seemed to have
their favorite Eagle, their favorite song, etc., but
the enthusiasm increased with every song, no matter
who was featured.
Don announced early in the evening that he had gotten
a cold during the ten day break, and that he was going
to share it with all of us. With very few exceptions,
you would never have known he wasn't feeling well from
the sound of his vocals. He also seemed to be in a
pretty good mood, moving around the stage quite a bit
and joking with Timothy.
Glenn is the consumate entertainer, isn't he? His
demeanor made it seem as if they were playing in a
small, intimate club or for a bunch of friends, not a
basketball stadium full of strangers. Yes, there were
the same jokes I've read about here many times, but
they still made everyone laugh. I have to say that
YBTTC wouldn't have been my first choice for his
(sadly) only solo song, but it still sounded good and
the horns were excellent.
Since Timothy was raised in Sacramento, he mentioned
the large amount of friends and family in the audience
and got a lot of applause for being a "local". His
vocal problems from the last couple of shows before
this one had definitely cleared up. LWKUA and ICTYW
sounded perfect. It's fun to watch Timothy - he looks
like he really enjoys being there and seems to feed
off the energy of the crowd.
I was a little confused by Joe during the first couple
of songs. Having heard that he's usually the resident
clown, I couldn't understand why he seemed to just
stand around, for the most part, looking serious and
almost bored. That changed, of course, as soon as he
got going. Or, maybe it was just that I didn't know
what to expect. As usual, things didn't really start
happening until Joe's segment in the second half of
the show. I was in the fifth row and kept hoping that
the rest of the crowd would stand up from the first
notes of the night, but it took the intro. to 'Walk
Away' to get them up and moving. Helmet Cam was a real
treat, especially to the people in the audience who
didn't know it was coming.
The supporting musicians - horns, keyboards,
percussion, and (of course) Stuart, were perfection.
Of course, they'd have to be to meet the Eagles' high
standards. Those standards of professionalism and
musicianship showed in every song. Nothing was missed
or skipped over in favor of a little less effort. It
was like going to a really good party with a bunch of
your friends. If the songs are becoming tedious for
the band, they should all receive Oscars for their
performances. Even Mr. Henley genuinely seemed to
enjoy himself and the crowd's appreciation. Let's hope
it's enough to sustain them for Farewell II, and III,
and IV........

I saw the show in... Sacramento, CA
My favorite part was... The fantastic live
harmony
My least favorite part was.. Not hearing Seven
bridges road
The band members were..... My favorite, Don Henley,
Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, Tim Schmidt and "the
replacement" for Felder
The show made me feel..... Wonderful. Best concert
I've ever been to. Only comparable was seeing Don
Henley a few years back when he did a solo tour for
inside job.
One thing I'll never forget is..... being there...I
was born in 75 so I missed all the original concerts,
and just never seemed to plan around the last 2 tours.
Other comments ....... Wish they could have done a
few more eagles songs instead of all the Joe Walsh
singles but that's just because I prefer Henley.
Overall, great concert and I can't find much to
complain about. Great show and worth every penny of
the money to be on the floor and close to the stage.

I saw the show in…
Sacramento - Arco Arena
My favorite part was...
The entire show! I love Boys of Summer so that would
have to be the highlight of my night. However, the
rest of the show was outstanding!! All She Wants to
Do is Dance had everyone on their feet dancing. The
guitar playing of Joe Walsh was absolutely amazing!
Also loved the horn section.
My least favorite
part was.... The show started a little late -no big
deal. Wish Don would have sang "The Last Resort"
Other than that, there
were a couple of things - nothing on the bands part.
I was in the upper section directly across from the
stage and unfortunately the score board was hanging in
the way of the screen so I wasn't able to get a good
view of the bands facial expressions during the show.
Another "least favorite" part was during much of the
show, I had 2 very chatty people behind me that would
not Shut up! Don Henley was singing "Wasted Time"
which was absolutely beautiful and these people talked
through the entire thing! You would think with what
we pay for tickets they would have paid attention to
the amazing show in front of them. Would have been
nice to see more of the fans in the upper section get
up and dance. Although, the seats are so steep that
made it kind of hard. I guess I'm just used to my
80's bands concerts where you stand during the entire
show and dance!
The band members
were..... Wonderful as usual! Joe Walsh: what an
amazing performer he is. He rocked the house! Glen
Frey: quite humorous at times. Did an awesome job
singing and playing the piano. I could see his image
on part of the screen and he was really getting into
it. Timothy Schmitt: he was very excited about
playing his home town. I just love his voice and he
did an awesome job. Don Henley: He's my favorite
member - can't get over that man's voice. Love it!!
He admitted to catching a chest cold in the Rockies
(and said he was going to pass it along to all of us -
then blew into the mic) I didn't hear the cold
effecting his voice one bit. The man is just amazing
and gives me goose bumps when he sings. Geez, the man
is my dad's age and makes me weak at the knees ;-)
The show made me
feel..... Nostalgic! I grew up listening to these
guys and being in the same building as them hearing
them play live is just awesome! I saw them for the
first time last year in Reno and was so amazed at how
good they sound live.
One thing I'll never
forget is..... During one of the songs that Joe Walsh
sang (for the life of me I can't remember which one),
Timothy and Glen were just rocking and would kind of
"freeze" in place, rock out some more, then freeze
again (all in sync). Just looked too cool!
Other comments
.......Can't wait for them to
come back for Farwell Tour II |

This
was my second show this season. I caught the Eagles
earlier in St. Louis (extensive review there.) We had
a great time. I saw the show with two of my friends,
both who were seeing the Eagles for the first time.
The Eagles put on an excellent show, and all of us
went home singing lyrics we all knew by heart.
Timothy talked about Sacramento being his home town.
He said his mom was up there somewhere in the audience
(pointed to her general direction) and dedicated “Love
Will Keep Us Alive” to her. For political jokes (and
trust me, California deserves our share of jabs right
now), Joe mentioned that there was still time for him
to run for Governor, and said, “I’ll tell you the
truth! There isn’t any more money!” Prior to Lyin’
Eyes, Glenn said, “I usually dedicate this to my
ex-wife, Plaintiff, but there are so many people here
that this could apply to!” I was in the 6th
row between Don and Joe, and the crowd up front was
hesitant to stand in that area. It took quite a while
to get them going, but then they picked it up for the
last half of the second set. The lighting was great,
and the Eagles provided sound quality better than most
groups that play there – Arco acoustics are truly for
sports rather than concerts. We could see all of the
guys clearly throughout the entire evening and watched
Timothy and Don joke with each other. Glenn was
animated the whole time, interacting with people in
the crowd and singing along even when he wasn’t at the
mic.
It
was great to share this concert with close friends who
were seeing the Eagles for the first time. There’s
nothing like being arm and arm with good friends
singing “Desperado” just a few yards from Don Henley.
My gracious thanks to the Eagles for helping us create
a new piece of personal nostalgia. |
