He looked great. Thin actually. Same
short-ish hair he had New Year's Eve. Wore jeans and cotton shirt
with rolled-up sleeves.
Sheryl Crow was in audience
and surprised him during Q and A session by asking
what's the going rate for backup singers these days?' He
laughed and said he couldn't afford her. He also said he
was proud of her.
He told
stories about storytelling, about writing of Sunset
Grill (great version of that) and said his favorite song is probably ``Heart of the Matter,'' which he
did with an electric guitar.
The
band was almost entirely
new. Looks like he wanted younger blood....
He said
VH1 wanted him to do Eagles songs and he didn't wanna so he relented and did
one--Life in the Fast Lane--with an amazing twist.
One
of the new songs will be "Working It" a song
about corporate greed.
The ballad
"For My Wedding" was really pretty. Don did not
write this one. It was written by Larry
John McNally.
He said he was nervous at first but
that the Storytellers format really fit him. He started off with
a monologue about storytelling and how he used to hear family
and friends tell stories at night on the lawn outside
the house.
Boys of
Summer was jazzy, almost. Interesting sound effects, like wind
and water and brass.
Everything
is Different now was the third single. It's a rocker and
is about how his life has changed in the last 11 years.
